Thank you for your interest in having Givens carry your book or host an author event. Please understand we evaluate hundreds of new book and event requests every year. Here are the guidelines we use when evaluating all books:

 

Stocking your book at Givens

Minimum Requirements:

  • Its content must be pertinent to our community or within the interest of our readers.
  • It must be packaged properly: We look at price, writing & editing quality, cover design, binding, and the general quality of packaging. No spiral binding or blank spines.
  • We do not stock or hold events for books published through Amazon, e.g. CreateSpace.
  • Book also must have an ISBN (barcode in order to scan book)
  • Additional Considerations: We prefer books that are already carried by our distributors Baker & Taylor and Ingram.

If we decide to go forward:

Sourcing: Books are sold on consignment. If your book’s publisher is someone we do not regularly work with, we will take the book on consignment from the author once requirements are met. Please review the consignment form linked at the bottom of this page.

If you feel your book fits these requirements:

Include in the email either a link to or attachments with information on the book, author, and publisher. It’s important we receive the request via email and can evaluate the request on our own schedule.  Thanks for understanding that we cannot handle phone calls or drop-in visits. Unsolicited samples dropped off or mailed will be recycled.

Events

Please note these terms are for unsolicited author events. Please email us if you have questions. We will make every effort to work with you to make your event an enjoyable and viable joint business venture.

We host author events on Saturdays from 12pm-2pm. For an event in the months of January-October there is a non-refundable $25 event fee.  This fee is $50 in November and December. Exceptions are sometimes made with days and times of events.

If you decide to go ahead with an event, please understand:

  • The booking fee is non-refundable and must be paid at the time date is confirmed and before any promotion begins from Givens.
  • Promotion: We expect the author to promote this event to all their contacts and to the target audience of the book.  In return, Givens will do the same; promoting in-store, online, in social media.
  • We can create and print 10 event posters for you at a price of $50. If you would like to make your own poster for the event, you can do so with our template.
  • We will have the event area set up with chairs, microphone (if needed), and signing table.
